Our Place in God's Church

The Uniting Church in Australia affirms that every member of the Church is engaged to confess the faith of Christ crucified and to be his faithful servant. It acknowledges with thanksgiving that the one Spirit has endowed the members of Christ's Church with a diversity of gifts, and that there is no gift without its corresponding service: all ministries have a part in the ministry of Christ.
(Basis of Union, Paragraph 13)

The Congregation has affirmed the following statement to capture what we are on about.

"Serving the Community, through

Unconditional hospitality, Inclusive worship, faithful service"

Unconditional hospitality means people are welcome, irrespective of difference e.g. race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, status. We aim to be a community that inspired by the Spirit with which Jesus reached out to the people of his day, especially the marginalized. We hope to create a healing space where Christ can work in all our lives to bring about healing and positive transformation. God made every person in God's own image - so we look for the reflection of God in every person.

Inclusive worship allows all people of all ages to take part in the services in ways that enable participation to the fullest level a person wants or needs. For one person that may mean sitting quietly through the service; for another, reading from the Bible or leading in prayer, playing or listening to stories and so on. Some of the music is traditional and some is contemporary. Most of it is singable for most people.

Faithful service means taking our faith beyond the Sunday church experience, in the spirit of the song we sometimes sing "May the mind of Christ my Saviour live in me from day to day...". We are exploring how we can faithfully serve our community through all our resources - people, property, time and talents. As a community of faith, we will serve the wider community around us, trying to be good neighbours and help develop good neighbourhoods.

Being Uniting, Hamilton-Broadmeadow Uniting Church is committed to ecumenism (working cooperatively with other Christian Denominations). We also seek to respect and learn from the wisdom of other faith traditions, through engaging with Interfaith Dialogue.
